Lamb Pro 1

Lamb-Pro1 Pellets are a complementary feed for orphan and surplus lambs to be fed with milk and roughage according to breed and system. Formulated to improve health and performance whilst reducing costs compared to conventional high milk replacer use systems. By reducing setbacks at weaning achieved by encouraging rumen development, Lamb-Pro1 can improve both margins and performance.

Lamb-Pro1 Pellets are also a perfect supplement for lambs at foot to complement milk from the ewe when conditions are sub-optimal. The highly digestible nutrients and attractive aroma provide young lambs with a feed which ensures good intakes for improved gains and rumen development.

The increasing number of twins and triplets being born through improved sheep genetics and stock management creates significant challenges for shepherds. Increasing competition for a finite amount of milk can have a detrimental effect on a lamb's growth and development. Supplementing a lamb's diet with Lamb-Pro1 is the ideal way to target nutrients where they are most needed. Even twin and single lambs born into a challenging environment, for example, a late snow or an early drought, will benefit from Lamb-Pro1.

In the absence of a palatable pellet such as Lamb-Pro1, lambs with restricted milk supply will be forced to consume grass at an earlier age. The low dry matter of fresh grass restricts a young lamb's dry matter intake potential. The consumption of additional dry matter rich in digestible starch and sugars in the form of Lamb-Pro1 pellets, will stimulate rumen development and improve subsequent weight gains from grass, enabling the lambs to be ready for market earlier - especially as they contain the unique gut conditioner NuStart.

NuStart for Lambs

Lamb NuStart is a unique premix that when added to a high quality pellet such as Lamb-Pro1, optimises growth, assists development and promotes good health in the early stages of a lamb's life. Developed by the world's largest animal premix exporter, Provimi, NuStart is a natural gut conditioning package containing etheric oils extracted from natural herbs and spices, functional fibre to stimulate rumen development and a powerful pre-biotic which helps to reduce scours. Significant benefits have been found in trials when NuStart is added to lamb ellets, particularly as the results below show, from around 5 weeks of age.

By encouraging early dry feed intake and improving performance and health, NuStart for Lambs increases live weight gains so that if desired, lambs can be finished earlier.

Feeding Recommendations

Lambs can be offered Lamb-Pro1 from as young as 1 day old, although intakes will be low until they are 2-3 weeks old. Lamb-Pro1 is a supplementary feed and should always be offered in conjunction with milk, hay and/or straw and a plentiful supply of water. Lamb-Pro1 is formulated to be fed at 100- 200g/day to complement milk or milk replacer. After weaning continue feeding at a rate between
400-800g/day until lambs weigh approximately 20kg.

For in-paddock feeding, Lamb-Pro1 should be placed in sheltered troughs behind gates with spaces 20 to 30 cm wide (depending on the breed size) through which the ewes cannot pass. The feeding system should be placed in an area where the lambs are encouraged to congregate, for example, for early lambs this would be in a sunny, warm, and dry location and for later lambs a cool, shady location

Please note that Lamb-Pro1 pellets generally do not attract as many wild birds as meal.
