Established by Sir Henry Wigram in 1889, Canterbury (NZ) Seed Company was the first proprietary seed company in New Zealand and the business started out by picking Akaroa Cocksfoot on Banks Peninsula and shipping the seed back to England. It has long been synonymous with the farming traditions of Canterbury, a region of New Zealand widely recognised as one of the most important seed production areas in the world.
